Another milestone in our ‘Join us’ campaign was the cinema premiere of our new Co-op films, directed by BAFTA award-winning director Shane Meadows.

Hundreds of colleagues packed into a cinema to witness the first showing of the short films which form part of our campaign to attract one million members to join our Co-op.

It was an important moment which celebrated both colleagues and the local causes who have brought our new Co-op membership to life since its launch to the public last September.

The celebrities walking the ‘blue carpet’ at this special event were the stars of the film, the local causes we’re supporting through our new membership.

Representatives from Gay Advice Darlington, Moor Row Jubilee Club, WAST (Women Asylum Seekers Together), Newark Youth London and Galashiels Town Band, were just a handful of the local causes being celebrated at this landmark showing.

Volunteer Abul Bashar, whose organisation Newark Youth London appeared in the advert, said: “There were loads of cameras. We were treated like film stars. I thought, wow! At first we were quite nervous but then we just ignored the cameras and did our stuff. When I saw the film I just thought it was quite authentic, and emotional.”

This week, because of you, we reached a landmark 500,000 new members – a massive well done to all our colleagues who’ve worked so hard to make this happen.
