Hot on the heels of last week’s awards for our Co-op comes even more recognition for what we’re doing…
Classy colleague makes all the difference.
The Grocer heaped praise on our Brighton Road, Horley, store when they carried out a series of unannounced visits to convenience stores around the country. “Clean… well stocked… neat and tidy… clutter-free… stuffed with SKUs” were just some of the positive comments they gave us. As well as clearly getting our Membership message – in particular liking how we spelt out what they could have earned and given to their community if they were a member on the till receipt – the best was saved to the end. “The real star of the show was behind the till” as they were offered Membership, had their bags packed and were asked if there was anything else they needed help with. The Grocer summed up their colleague interaction perfectly with one word: “Class.”
A great performance all round in helping show the industry that we’re back and what we have to offer.
‘Old Betsy’ comes up trumps
The Funeralcare Marketing Team won the Effectiveness campaign award at the Marketing Agencies Association #DoDifferent awards for our ‘Grandad’s engine’ campaign. This is the one with the one with the elderly gent and his pride and joy – ‘Old Betsy’ the steam engine – and how he’s taken care of his funeral with one our plans.
Recognising innovation and originality the judges said that the campaign was “brilliantly executed”. And it wasn’t just the award that this campaign won. Compared to the same period the previous year, we saw a78% increase in sales – showing how we’re truly leading the market.
Our European wine rack
You might keep your wine bottles on a wine rack so it’s convenient to grab one when you want some. Scale that up to make sure that all our stores get the right wine when they need it and you’ve got yourself our European Wine Hub. Enabling us to stock more specialised wines and reduce stockholding, our hub was a runner up for the Supply Chain Initiative award at last night’s Retail Week Awards.
The hub allows us to receive deliveries more frequently, on a shorter lead time, and gives us the opportunity to source wines from small independent wineries.
