Apprentices take over the House of Commons
Lois McClure, our Co-op 2014 National Apprentice of the Year, travelled to the House of Commons this week alongside 170 apprentices from the North West Young Apprentice Ambassador Network.
As part of an ‘Apprentices take over the Commons’ event, the Minister for Skills and Apprenticeships, Robert Halfon, Nus Ghani MP, and Joe Billington, from the National Apprenticeship Service, all addressed the apprentices and their employers.
Commenting on the event, Lois said: “This was a great opportunity to talk to Robert about the North West Young Apprentice Ambassador Network that I was involved in creating for apprentices across the region. The aim of the network is for us all to stay connected, have a voice and empower other young people.
“It was also a great opportunity to meet other apprentices from across to UK who all want to be part of the Apprenticeship Ambassador agenda and share our experiences together.”
Funeralcare apprentice wins national award
As ten new colleagues began their Funeralcare apprenticeships on Monday, Laura Eaves, Funeral Arranger at the Preston Funeral home was presented with an training award by the training provider, learndirect as she approaches the end of her apprenticeship.
Laura said: “I’ve really grown in confidence and experience as I’ve gone through each stage of my Funeral Operations and Services apprenticeship. I broke the course down into manageable stages and felt great satisfaction at being able to tick off all the different things I achieved both front of house with clients and back of house in the office.
“There are so many resources to draw knowledge and information from and I’ve been lucky to have such amazing colleagues to give me help and my tutor Ilona has been there with me every step of the way.”
