Colleagues from Food and Funeralcare will be bringing together local causes and members tomorrow in a nationwide celebration of the first pay-out since we launched membership scheme last September.

It is a significant milestone for us, not only because we have raised such a significant amount of money, but because it starts a new chapter of building relationships with causes in our community. Thanks to the hard work every colleague has put in, we will be paying out more than £9m to over 4,000 local causes. It makes me feel very proud to work for the Co-op.

Get involved

I’ll be sharing in the celebrations at Copplehouse Lane store in Liverpool and look forward to meeting the colleagues and local causes while I’m there. Colleagues from across the Support Centre including our senior leaders will also be supporting our stores with their celebrations. Please make sure you pop into your local store and do the same.

Show your support by joining our on your personal social media accounts. We’ll post the one-time message tomorrow, along with all our other Thunderclap supporters, at the same time. That way we’ll be heard on social shouting loud and proud about our Co-op.

You can also shout proudly about being a Co-op Member and encourage others to Join us by adding our Twibbon to your personal social media profile images on Twitter and Facebook –

Spreading the word

You’ll have seen our powerful TV commercial over the Easter weekend. We’ve had some great coverage – including National newspapers celebrating the total amount we’re giving, through to local papers covering the differences we’re making in their communities. If you commute, you’ll hopefully have seen our full wrap-around of today’s Metro newspaper… and even Jo Brand has tweeted her praise for us.

Tonight Channel 4 are hosting a special evening over on More 4 where BAFTA award-winning director Shane Meadow’s short films, premiered in Manchester in January, will be the only ads appearing in the ad breaks between 8pm and 10.15pm.

Don’t forget to tune in.

We’re widening our search for Member Pioneers

Since we advertised for Member Pioneers to join us, we’ve had over 300 applications – with many coming from areas that we weren’t actively recruiting in. This is fantastic as it shows the passion to be involved is spreading by word of mouth!

Given this level of interest, we’re now widening our recruitment into new communities across the UK. So if you are, or know someone who is, a communicator, an organiser, a motivator and can bring members, colleagues and local causes together to make great things happen in your community, then check out to see if your area is covered and for full details. Applications close on 26 April.
