Two amazing bits of recognition for our wines this week…
It’s the way we sell it…
First up – we’ve been awarded the Convenience Store Chain of the Year at this year’s International Wine Challenge Merchant Awards.
These ‘Oscar’s of the wine trade’ are accepted as the world’s finest and most meticulously judged wine competition. Having already won 12 individual wine awards earlier this year, these awards celebrate the retailers and merchants who bring the wines to the public.
Simon Cairns, Category Manager for Beers, Wines and Spirits said of the win, “This is great recognition for our fantastic wine range and our passionate wine buying team and shows our commitment to becoming the leading retailer for beers, wines and spirits in the UK.”
Two of the best champagnes in the world…
And if you fancy celebrating this win – or anything else for that matter – then why not choose some of the best champagne in the world. Our Les Pioneers champagnes have both been awarded Gold at the 2017 Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships.
We are the only own brand range to be awarded this, and we sit alongside some of the ‘big boys’ on the market – such as Louis Roederer Cristal Brut Rosé 2004 costing £396 and Dom Pérignon 1998 P2 Magnum costing £310. They’re probably pretty miffed that our ones, at only £17 (and £25 for the vintage) a bottle, have been proven to be as good as theirs! And with the judging being made by some of the ‘masters of wine’ (of which there are only 350 worldwide with this accolade), we can be sure that they know their stuff.
Of this truly impressive recognition, Ben Cahill, our champagne buyer, said, “It’s fantastic to see Co-op’s own brand Champagne rubbing shoulders with some of the most esteemed brands in the industry. We travel the globe to source top-quality wine at the very best prices and this win just goes to show that buying award-winning wine doesn’t have to break the bank.”
Congratulations to everyone involved.
