The summer holidays will be a distant memory for many now school has kicked in, but a group of children from Brighton, and 50 elderly residents from Withington, won’t be forgetting their special trips to the seaside courtesy of Saltdean Community Charity and Withington Assist.
Both charities benefited from our Local Community Fund with Saltdean receiving £3,900 to treat a group of inner city Brighton children to a seaside trip and a visit to the local lido.
The money raised by our members also paid for new facilities to be installed at the Saltdean Community Hall including a new waiting room and kitchen.
Christine Foster, Communications Co-ordinator with Saltdean Community Charity, said: “It was a fabulous day – the children are still talking about it and many parents said it was the highlight of their summer. We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who made it possible, from the volunteers and entertainers to the Co-op shoppers who helped to raise the money. We hope to able to do it all again soon.”
Withington Assist’s main focus is to reduce social isolation and loneliness in its community. Regional manager Paul Faulkner and colleagues from the local food store worked closely together to make sure the trip to Llandudno went smoothly. They’re looking forward to working with this local cause to make it happen again next year.
