Today our biggest ever survey into death, dying and bereavement goes live. Please go to and fill it in.

By doing this you’ll help us understand what stops people from talking about such an important subject.

And you’ll also have the chance of winning some great prizes.

As Steve Murrells said in our Stronger Co-op, Stronger Communities ambition, we’re the market leader in funerals but we want to lead the market.

This survey will help us lead the way on tackling the taboos surrounding death, and encourage the nation to talk more openly.

If more people had open conversations about dying it would help our loved ones do the right thing when the time comes.

  • 41% admit feeling unable to talk about and express their emotions at the time of the loss of a loved one
  • 53% believe more open conversations about death, dying and bereavement would have helped them to cope with the loss of a loved one
  • Only 31% are totally comfortable when talking about death, dying and bereavement with loved ones
  • 66% think that talking about death and dying needs to be easier and become more ‘normal’

Supported by a number of national charities linked to death and later life, we’re aiming to reach tens of thousands of people across the UK and encourage social change in the way we deal with, and talk about, death.

So please fill it in and pass the link on to your family and friends:

  1. Personally I find the subject of society’s beliefs and perceptions about death fascinating . An engaging topic about something human kind have faced for thousands of years and yet we still fear what we don’t understand.

  2. I found the survey very easy to use and I encourage everyone to take part, However I filled this out in store and at the end when I pressed submit I got the dreaded IT message “Sorry this webpage has been blocked by your organisation”
So I am unaware if my survey has been submitted?

    • Hi Dave App. Sorry to hear that. I’m looking into now for you. You can access it from your personal device too. I’ll get back to you as soon as I have any info. Thanks ^Rachel
