From next week we’ll be encouraging more members to go online and choose a local cause to support with their 1%.
This will help close the circle Steve Murrells talked about in our Stronger Co-op, Stronger Communities ambition. We need more people to get involved in our Local Community Fund, understand the good it does and spread the word.
Our campaign starts in our Food stores on Monday 21 May on till screens, in-store radio and on noticeboard posters. We’ll also be getting in touch with as many of our members as possible using email and social media.
We’d love you to get involved and drum up support in your community, using all the great relationships you’ve built with our members and local causes.
So if you’ve not chosen a cause already, please do it. It’s simple. Just sign into your membership account.
Please spread the word to other colleagues and members.
Our next round
In March we asked for your help to encourage local causes in your community to apply for the next round of our Local Community Fund, which goes live in October.
We received a record 12,000 applications and that’s down to colleagues spreading the word – so thank you.
You might remember that we extended our criteria to include co-operatives and community groups that aren’t registered charities. This time one third of our applications came from those kind of causes.
We also asked causes to tell us how their project would connect people and bring them together in their communities.
Both of these changes are a fantastic way of making sure we support those causes who really show our co-operative difference in action.
