At our AGM on Saturday we had a lot of new and exciting things to share with our members.

As well as updating them on our recent annual results, we shared our Stronger Co-op, Stronger Communities ambition, and our plans to make Co-op a great place to work. The response from members was really positive.

Here’s a look at what happened on the day:

NOTE: we know videos can’t be watched in store – but you can watch them from your own device, anytime, by searching for ‘Co-op’ on YouTube. You can also check out the transcript.

We also shared some of the big things we’ve done recently, which you’ll see in these films we showed:

Water poverty

In 2017 we donated £100,000 from the sales of Co-op bottled water to the hurricane hit Dominican Republic and to help Rohingya refugees fleeing Burma. Through the sales of our bottled water we’re also giving more than £1m a year to the One Foundation to fund water projects in the poorest parts of the world. And through the new Global Investment Fund for Water, we contribute £900,000 a year from sales of non Co-op branded water too. See the difference it’s making:

Modern slavery

Our Bright Future programme is helping victims of modern slavery gain paid work experience and the opportunity of a job in our business. By 2020 we’ll have helped 300 survivors of modern slavery into paid work – around 100 here at Co-op. We’re also campaigning for the Government to extend support for slavery survivors from 45 days to a year, by supporting Lord McColl’s Private Members’ Bill.

New travel insurance

Our new travel insurance was developed with our members. It’s groundbreaking in how it treats pre-existing health conditions, and the support you get before, during and after your trip. And it went down well with seasoned traveller Ben Fogle too:

Celebrating Being Co-op

This year we launched our first ever Being Co-op Awards and had an incredible 1,859 nominations for colleagues who live our ways of being every day. The judging panel had a hard task of picking 12 winners. Here’s a short clip of one of them – Samantha Peake, our Store Colleague of the Year:
