Visit a farm on Sunday 10 June and discover the story behind our food
and how farming affects our everyday lives.
Open Farm Sunday is run by registered charity, LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) and it’s the farming industry’s national open day. We’re sponsoring Open Farm Sunday for a fourth year and opening the gates to the public at eight of the farms we work with across England and Wales.
It’s an annual opportunity to see first-hand what we do to support the farms who provide us with our products – from fruit and veg to our fresh meat. We all know we source our food as responsibly as we can, but what you might not know is the work our farming and fisheries team do to make this happen. Working with farmers and growers across the UK, we make sure the best products end up on our shelves.
Each year, hundreds of families spend a day in our beautiful countryside finding out first-hand how our farmers produce our food and how we work with them to keep our countryside looking great.
Olivia Nicholson, Junior Agricultural Manager, told us:
I think many of us take it for granted where our food comes from. We’ve worked closely with eight of the farms who provide our Co-op products to showcase what they do and how they do it. Each of the farms is unique and they are a real cross section covering different foods and types of farming.
“Open Farm Sunday is a fabulous day out for all the family with lots to see and plenty of fun to be had by all.
Activities at the farms range from machinery displays, tractor and trailer rides, through to demonstrations, tastings and much more. Caroline Morris manages Manor Farm in Buckinghamshire. She’s looking forward to greeting the public and told us why it’s both educational and a great day out:
I’m really looking forward to taking part in Open Farm Sunday on Sunday 10 June. It’s our first time and it’ll be fantastic for people to see the work we do on our farm. It’s sure to be a great day and we’re looking forward to showing children where their food comes from as it gives us a real buzz.
We look forward to welcoming as many of you as possible to our farms. Let’s hope the sun continues to shine. Click below for details of the farms that we work with who’ll be open to the public on Sunday 10 June.
