Stronger Co-op, Stronger Communities ambition circle

Back in January we launched our Stronger Co-op, Stronger Communities five year ambition.

But what does it mean for you? What do we need to do to have a stronger Co-op helping develop stronger communities? What can you see happening in your own area of our Co-op?

We’ve already made progress, for example: buying Simplify Probate to make us the leading probate provider in the UK (a stronger Co-op) and tripling the number of our Academies to 40 over the next three years (stronger communities). At our AGM last month we announced how we’re also exploring new business opportunities in areas such as health & wellbeing, money and an online marketplace.

Some colleagues kindly shared their thoughts in the video below after seeing members of our Exec talking about our plans and answering questions. Please share your thoughts in the comments below.

Note: We know watching videos in store is difficult – so search on YouTube for ‘Co-op Colleagues’ to find this, or read the transcript.

  1. What does our Stronger Co-op, Stronger Communities ambition mean for you? Honestly? Nothing. It’s such a wishy-washy statement that has no day-to-day impact.

It’s not a mindset. It doesn’t impact my actions.

It’s like #onecoop which is another vacuous phrase, just trotted out to squash dissent when things are centralised.

  2. “health and wellbeing” Didn’t we just dispose of a profitable pharmacy business a couple of years ago? Shame, that. . .

Many big businesses are successfully selling products on ebay and amazon. Maybe a potential route to consider. Amazon will even let you use FBA (fulfilled by amazon) ie. they take care of the logistics.
