We know that our fight against modern slavery is something many of our colleagues are really proud of, and slowly but surely we’re starting to see survivors of this awful crime rebuild their lives with jobs in our Co-op.

It’s been a great week for getting the message out far and wide, both about what we’re doing, and about the need for co-operation to tackle this issue.

As well as meeting the Home Office Minister Victoria Atkins this week, our Chief Executive Steve Murrells was interviewed on Sky News about our work, which was also covered in the Times and Metro newspapers.

You can watch the Sky interview below:

*(we know colleagues on some systems can’t watch videos, so here’s a transcript too)

But us talking about the issue and what we’re doing isn’t about self promotion – Bright Future is a partnership and we want to bring in as many other people as we can. We want to share the limelight and help organisations large and small get involved.

So we were all really excited to hear that this week John Lewis was the latest business to sign up to Bright Future. As a household name and another member owned business, it’s great to have them on board.

You can read more about our work and why it’s so important in Steve’s recent blog post.

  1. A campaign we can really be proud to support, its great to hear that the program fits for majority of victims and sounds like we have had some real wins. Great to see our CEO in the frontline on this.

  2. Well done Paul and team.

The media are so obsessed with getting figureheads on screen but we can recognise the people doing the real work.

    • It was a good week and we are lucky to have Steve as CEO because his commitment to our campaign on slavery has been unstinting – the difference between successful campaigning and failing is the commitment from the most senior folk…and with Steve there has never been a doubt!

      Paul
