I’m Tom Chinnery and I’m one of over 80 Diversity and Inclusion Pioneers from all across Co-op.
I’ve been with Co-op for over eight years and I currently work in the Retail Business Transformation Team where I develop and implement new software across the Food business, but I’ve also worked in the Co-op Risk team and Food Commercial.
I’ve witnessed first-hand where poor inclusion can have a negative impact on colleagues and I’m passionate about making sure we don’t do that here.
This week is National Inclusion week, so it’s a great opportunity to talk about what inclusion means and why it’s so important to our Co-op. This year’s theme is #everydayinclusion which means celebrating practical ways we can all create an inclusive environment.
What do we mean by inclusion?
It’s about creating the right environment where we’re all respected and valued as individuals and where what’s different about each of us is valued. It doesn’t matter who you are, where you work, the role you do or the grade you are, we can all make our Co-op that little bit more inclusive; where we can all come to work and be our true and best selves.
Take a look at this short video where our CEO Steve Murrells talk about what inclusion means for him.
Throughout the week we’ll have stories from colleagues about what inclusion means for them.
There are a number of ways you can get involved this week:
- There are a number of events that you can join to learn more, both in 1 Angel Square and out in the field
- Set up an event on your own to talk about inclusion in your area – there’s a toolkit to help you
- Or join the conversation on Co-op Colleague Facebook or Colleague Twitter using #BeingCoop or #everydayinclusion
Have a great National Inclusion Week!
