Illustration of people celebrating

We’re counting down the days to our third Payout Celebration Day where we’ll celebrate the money we’ve given back to local causes in our communities and the difference it’s made to people’s lives.

How you can be part of it

If you can, get down to your local store on Saturday 24 November and show your support for our store colleagues and your local causes.

Make sure you get on social media and share your photos and stories throughout the day using #TheCoopWay.

Last year will be hard to beat

For our South division, it’s one of the real highlights of the year for members and colleagues.

To us, the Local Community Fund is one of the differences between working at Co-op and working for one of our competitors.

Last year was all about coming together as one Co-op – which we did brilliantly. All of the 900 stores in the south created displays, dressed up, baked cakes, and invited local causes into store. It was a proud moment.

Colleagues and members told us amazing stories about the difference the 1% had made to their lives, and their communities. And we made sure social media was full of images of us sharing the day with local causes.

24 November will be bigger and better

2018 will be even better as co-operating and bringing together local causes and members has become a way of life in our shops and communities.

At our VIP South awards event we recognise colleagues for living our Ways of Being Co-op. Claire Saunders, who works as a team manager in our Moray Way, Romford store, won two awards for her amazing work in the community.

I spoke to Claire about what she’s got planned for this year and she told me:

“I’m a Member Pioneer and love working for Co-op and the opportunities it gives me to work with the community and be myself. I love Payout Celebration Day and am already planning our store’s day.

“We’re inviting our local causes into store and planning a fun day involving Funeralcare too. I’ve also invited our local MP and neighbourhood police who I work closely with. I can’t wait.”

This kind of enthusiasm is infectious and is just one example of how our colleagues embrace this special day.

Please come and share in the celebrations.

Also don’t forget you’ve only got until midnight on 27 October to choose your cause for this round of funding. Sign in to your membership account if you haven’t already chosen.

  2. Thanks for the blog Peter. Good reminder about how colleagues can get involved in the celebrations, and a great way to support the amazing work our members fund via the Local Community Fund, and the difference it makes to people’s lives.
