Thanks to the generosity of colleagues, members, and customers, we’ve already raised £30k for the appeal by our partners at the DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee).
200,000 people urgently need humanitarian assistance - a quarter of them are children who’ve suffered unimaginable trauma and continue to be shaken by hundreds of aftershocks which have hit the area since the earthquake.
Over 10,000 people are injured and 80,000 people are sleeping in makeshift shelters and are in desperate need of food, water and medical care.
All you’ve raised will go directly to help these people. People like Rori, who’s lost her mother, grandmother and cousins, as well as her home.
NOTE: we know videos can’t be watched in store – but you can watch them from your own device, anytime, by searching for ‘Co-op Colleagues’ on YouTube. Or read this transcript.
On top of the generous donations from colleagues, members and customers – with the support of The One Foundation and Co-op – £65,000 will be donated to projects on the ground through the sales of Co-op own brand water.
This will help the most vulnerable population in Sulawesi, improving the water infrastructure, and giving essential hygiene and sanitation items to 14,000 people.
A massive thank you
As always, the response from colleagues, members and customers has been incredible. In stores, funeral homes and support centres, people have given so generously.
We’ve proved yet again that when we come together as one Co-op we make things happen. Your contributions will make such a difference to thousands of people.
Chief Executive, Co-op
Donations are still being accepted if you’ve not yet given. £30 could provide emergency shelter for one family, £50 could provide a family with food for a month, £100 could help build toilets and washing facilities for a family.
- Text ‘GIFT’ to 70000 to give £5 (texts are free but donations will be added to the bill and must have bill payer’s permission).
