Ash colleague

By Ash Akhtar, Internal Communications

That’s what makes me proud to work for Co-op. It’s the quote you might have seen next to a photo of me on a postcard you got through your letterbox. And you’ll see it again in my story in ‘Let’s talk about Co-op’, the one-off digital magazine we’ve created for colleagues.

In the three years I’ve worked here, I’ve seen Co-op do a lot of great stuff. There’s so much that makes me proud to work here, but the one I’m most passionate about is our commitment to creating a greener world.

We developed the technology for compostable carrier bags, and instead of keeping it to ourselves, we shared it with the world, for free. We’ve got reasons for doing that, and they make us unique – I don’t think any other business would do the same.

The digital magazine

I’m not going to go into all the detail here, so check out my story for the rest!

You can go straight to each story from the contents on page two, and go back there via the little house icons you’ll see in the top corners.

It was really fun to be part of this magazine. It’s a one-off digital publication; you won’t see any paper copies and it doesn’t take the place of ‘Our Voice’ or ‘Let’s talk about Food’, our regular magazines.

Each story is completely different from any other, coming from colleagues from all business areas and in so many roles. I loved being able to share my story, but seeing it among so many others reminded me what an inspiring community I’m part of here at Co-op.

The postcards

I was chuffed to make it onto one of these – also a bit daunted! Four of the stories in the magazine were redesigned to fit through letterboxes and posted out to all colleagues.* The idea behind these was to do something a bit different, get you talking and also give you something to mark the change in the way we’re talking to our customers and members. If you haven’t already heard all about the ways we’re starting to share our Co-op difference, you can read all about it in Alison Jones’ story.

Let’s all talk about Co-op

I loved being part of this digital magazine, and being one of the 13 who got to share their story. But within our community of nearly 65,000 colleagues, there are so many more stories to tell. If you want to get involved, share yours on social media with the hashtag #BeingCoop.
