By Steve Murrells, Co-op CEO

A huge congratulations to our very own Jo Whitfield for winning the 2019 Veuve Clicquot Business Woman Award last night.

These awards have honoured business women since 1972 and celebrate those who share the same qualities as Madame Clicquot. Madame Clicquot, also known as the ‘Grande Dame of Champagne’ was known to be the original trailblazer with enterprising spirit, courage and determination to achieve her goals.

And Jo absolutely shares these qualities. As well as loving a glass of bubbly, Jo has taken our Food business to new heights in her time as CEO. In addition to being recognised for her work innovating in the grocery sector, seeing Co-op Food achieve over 4 years of like-for-like growth, she’s seen as a strong champion of women in the workplace and passionate about developing a new era of female talent.

I’m extremely proud we’re home to such incredible talent and it’s been a pleasure working with Jo over the last few years. From delivering our partnership with Nisa, to popping up shops in UK festivals, delivering food by robots and electric bikes and even setting up a women’s network in Grocery Girls, it’s no wonder she’s being recognised for all that hard work.

Well done Jo!
