By June Tattersall, Funeral Arranger

I work with Annabel Davies (Belle), funeral director at our Funeralcare branch in Burnley. I nominated Belle for the 2019 #BeingCoop Show You Care award because she always shows compassion to families and gives 100% (and more) to the people she supports in our community.

She’s a major part of the local Funeralcare team and is always willing to help – nothing’s ever too much trouble. I’ve worked with Belle for the past two years and on many occasions I’ve seen her invest her own time visiting families at their homes, making sure everything’s just how they want it to be for the funeral of their loved one. She makes our clients feel relaxed and at ease, while always acting professional.

Belle’s worked with a number of grieving parents and other people affected by the loss of a child and lobbied local councils to offer free cremation services for infants. She now has two cuddle cots which she offers out to families which allow mummy and daddy to have their baby at home and she goes to the parent’s homes to set them up, mostly in her own time.

Her dedication and support for families really does go above and beyond, so much so, two families nominated her for external awards. Not only has she been there for parents who’ve lost children, she’s also arranged funerals for her own family and friends, so that’s meant added pressure to cope with.

Along with caring for her families, Belle’s still found time to get involved in community work. She’s collected knitted baby hats and blankets for charity. During December she ran the Annabel’s Shoebox Appeal for the homeless – collecting over 30 boxes, which she took to the local church on Christmas Day for their homeless Christmas dinner.

She makes such a difference in our community. She’s so easy to get on with and is always there for me if I’ve got a problem and need help. It’s a pleasure to come to work each day.

Congratulations Belle on being selected as our 2019 #BeingCoop Show You Care award winner.

  1. I second Nigel Dawsons response and include June in praise, she is also there behind Belle getting in involved in community activities. Congratulations to Belle for your dedication and drive and also hooray for June who works hard to make things happen at Burnley branch.

  2. What a fantastic tribute and congratulations to Belle for this richly-deserved award.

I know how much effort Belle has put into ensuring the families she serves receive the best possible attention, and it takes real dedication to be able to provide such a high level of care time and time again in such sad circumstances, but for each and every family to have that 1:1 focus.

I also know how much care and support you give, June, so you deserve thanks for the great service you give families in and around Burnley.

    You’re a formidable team.

  3. Congratulations to Annabel (Belle) for this award you deserve it for all the hard work and dedication you give to the families we are called upon to serve.
The role of a Funeral Director is as challenging now as it always has been in my experience, it isn’t about working from 9 until 5 for 5 days it is about always being available day or night. Belle has shown above and beyond the call of duty what we are about in the Co-operative Family and that makes a difference.
I know exactly what June writes about when talking about Belle, I have heard it from several colleagues in the Blackburn Hub.
