By Alex Barthorpe, Engagement Support Assistant, Castlewood Depot
As an Engagement Support Assistant, my role is to support the depot with their charity and community work, alongside any sports and social activities. I nominated the depot for the #BeingCoop Succeed Together award in recognition of how much we’ve achieved over the past year, and to highlight that logistics is much more than just getting stock in and out of the warehouse.
The amount of hard work that goes into the depot is astronomical. With operational challenges including the Beast from the East, a scorching summer and the longest World Cup run from an England team in years, 2018 was crazy.
On top of this, everyone in the depot has worked tirelessly to put ourselves at the heart of our community. Through everyone’s passion and dedication to making a difference, we’ve collectively raised a staggering £21,889 for local causes and other charities.
This was achieved thanks to our team taking part in over 20 different challenges and fundraising acts. We held raffles and sweepstakes, sold poppies and cheesecakes, hosted events including the annual summer fare, along with a World’s Largest Coffee Morning. Our sponsored walks evolved into Yorkshire 3 peak hikes, colleagues completed marathons and our Depot General Manager even climbed Mount Snowdon. In line with a sporting theme, we ran a fantasy football league, sold football cards, enjoyed football shirt Fridays and challenged our local food stores to a football match. We also hosted a volleyball tournament and 25 of our colleagues cycled from Castlewood to the coast – covering 96 miles.
It’s no small achievement to raise that much and I don’t think we shout about what we do often enough for everyone to see.
I’m really proud to be part of the team. I think this win reflects how well we pulled together to achieve so much. Well done to Castlewood on being crowned the #BeingCoop Succeed Together winners!
