By Georgie Brennan, Franchise and Wholesale Brand Manager

We’ve just opened our brand new franchise store at Kent University and we’re so excited to get going. ‘Park Wood’ is right on campus, amongst the main student residential area, and it’s the first of two that we’ll open with Kent University this summer.

Both stores (the second, ‘Union Plaza’ opens next month) will be open in plenty of time for the new academic year, and will really transform the former union stores. Students will be able to choose from our full Co-op range, and get better value for money, as well as tap into more than 100 employment opportunities.

Park Wood is our fifth Co-op franchise now, and our second on a university campus. We’ve learned so much from our fantastic store at Leeds University Union which we opened in February. Sales there have doubled since it became a Co-op, and we’ve learned a lot about how to engage with young people.

We can see that a Co-op franchise works for students so it’s an area we’re really focusing on. Being on campus means we’re right there when students need us, with a range of high quality, relevant products that offer great value. And our brand is a great fit too; from our commitment to the environment and Fairtrade to how we support our local communities, young people are really interested in the way we do business.

I’m so proud of how franchise is helping us to reach new customers in places that we just couldn’t have got to otherwise. We’re building the next generation of Co-op fans!

  1. With a headline like “Take a look”, it’d have been nice to see a few more pictures, particularly inside.

  6. Please look at University of Cumbria as a possible location for a franchise.
Also the new Lake District Airport at Carlisle has potential.
