By Edward Robinson, Co-op Wine Buyer

A huge ‘cheers’ is in order after another fantastic month of award wins. Yet again, our trophy cabinet is jam-packed with recognition of everyone’s hard work.

We’re on cloud wine

We stole the show at the International Wine Challenge Awards after bagging ‘Convenience Store Chain of the Year’ for the fourth year running. But to top it off, our very own Co-op Irresistible Fairtrade Malbec won the Fairtrade Wine Trophy! This really is worth celebrating – not just for how good it tastes, but because of the real difference our products are making in the world.

For 20 years we’ve been working with the La Riojana winery in northern Argentina and we’re proud to stock their barrel-aged Malbec. Sales of this wine in Co-op have supported the building of a clean water facility and a secondary school – and now, we’re working on a health centre. It was great to be recognised by judges as business ‘with real personality’. This win is also due reward for our partners in Argentina, who work so tirelessly to do the right thing, both in the vineyard and the local community.

And it’s drinks all round, as we also gained two silver awards for our Les Pionniers Vintage Champagne and Co-op Les Pionniers Non-Vintage Champagne, at the Sparkling Wine World Championships.

Food glorious food

The spotlight was also on our tasty summer Food range at this year’s Grocer Gold awards. We received accreditation for an assortment of own brand goodies – from Mer-mazing Cones, to Irresistible hand-cooked crisps and coleslaw, and so much more.

Not to forget cheese! Last night we came home from the International Cheese Awards with nine more awards. Our Irresistible Mature Cheddar, came top of the class with the gold award, closely followed by four more silvers and three bronzes from our cheese range. And if that wasn’t enough, we also bagged Convenience Retailer of the Year!

Power of the people

Behind all our great products are great people. Congratulations to Sue Parker-Tantush and Louise Atherton from our Risk team for collecting the ‘Embracing Excellence’ Award for Incident Management at Sphera’s Annual Conference.

Team work makes the dream work

Co-op Insurance are celebrating a joint win with our supplier, Sedgewick Claims Management (SCM). Despite facing against stiff competition from the likes of Smart Cover Insurance and The Insurance Emporium, we picked up ‘Outstanding Services to the Policyholder’ at the British Claims Award.

Our data team are also celebrating after being rewarded ‘Best Data Ethics and Privacy Initiative’ at the DataLQ awards. This recognises Co-op colleagues’ commitment to being trusted with the data of members, customers, and communities.

In congratulating our data team win, Tim Sleap, Director of Data and Insight at Co-op, set the overall tone for this month’s scoop of awards – ‘this award goes a long way in showing that we are championing a better way of doing business for our customers, colleagues and communities.’

It’s wonderful to see our products, people and services, getting the recognition they deserve.

Well done everyone, keep up the great work!
