This week celebrates social enterprises, such as businesses like our Co-op, which put planet and people before profit.

The campaign which is led by Social Enterprise UK is calling on people to think more about the positive impacts that social enterprises make to society when they’re making buying decisions.

I’m really proud that our Co-op is one of the sponsors of the week which has some really high profile backing from people such as Michael Sheen, Sali Hughes, Caitlin Moran and Chris Addison. You can see them talking about the week in the video below, and we get a great shout out at the end.

Our business is a leading social enterprise and I really hope that this campaign helps spread the message about the good that social enterprises are doing for not only consumers like you and I, but also our social enterprise suppliers.

Here are some fantastic products from some of these amazing suppliers that are being highlighted by the campaign which runs until Saturday. Many are stocked in our stores – just look out for the #BuySocial badge.

Co-op Irresistible Fairtrade Chocolate – In our 25th year of championing fairtrade, we continue to lead the by supporting Kuapa Kokoo Co-op, supporting female participation and social, economic and political empowerment.

Toast Ale – this supplier reduces food waste by making beer out of surplus bread products

Brewgooder – donates 100% profits to clean water projects through One Foundation

BeCo Soap – creates employment opportunities for people who are visually impaired, disabled or disadvantaged
