By Dave Robertson, Retail IT Director
The #BeingCoop awards are a big thing and I wanted our team to be part of it. I think it’s great for the winners who are recognised for the way they live our Ways of Being Co-op; hearing their stories and celebrating them at our AGM.
As an IT leadership team, we made a conscious effort to invest time in the awards. We thought about all the people doing great things and their stories. Then each of us nominated the amazing colleagues in our team. I nominated Neil for the Support Centre Colleague of the Year award for his efforts both at work and in the community. At work he never shies away from a challenge and has faced into some extremely challenging projects and roles, whilst in the community he champions the IRIS film festival and supporting acquired brain injury patients.
I knew the nomination had to be compelling, to stand out and really do Neil justice. I worked with a colleague and we took our time getting this right. It was really easy to submit on the website: www.coop.co.uk/thankyou.
We were delighted when we found out Neil had become a finalist and celebrated within the team every step of the way. When we heard Neil had won, we got the award and certificate to present to him in front of the team, before the national celebrations took place.
I feel so proud of Neil to be recognised for his IT work as an individual, and it was also great for us to win as a support centre team. The whole department loved that what we do and what we’re about as individuals and as colleagues within Co-op had been recognised.
I’ve already nominated for the 2020 awards and I’m looking forward to having a say on the winners with the new colleague vote.
Remember, there’s still time for you to get involved this year. You have until Friday 14 February to nominate Co-op colleagues who’ve gone above and beyond and live our Ways of Being Co-op for one of our 12 fantastic awards. Find out about the award categories and nominate at www.coop.co.uk/thankyou.
This year the awards are bigger and better – with all our finalists attending an awards event in May. There’ll be more winners than ever before and colleagues will help to pick them via a colleague vote.
