I run a parkrun most weekends. It helps me wake up in the morning and kick starts my weekend in a positive way – getting some fresh air, blowing away the cobwebs and catching up with my friends.
The thing I love about parkrun is that everyone’s welcome no matter what, it’s a chance for people from different backgrounds, ages and abilities to come together and be part of something bigger. Your hair can be all over the place, you might not have any make-up on, you could be sweating from head to toe – nobody really cares!
I don’t run parkrun to beat a specific time or run a personal best. It’s just great to have the opportunity to get some headspace and take time out for myself – it’s a bit of an escape from the reality of living a busy life.
If you haven’t done so already, I’d recommend everyone to sign up to parkrun and get involved. I think it’s the perfect way to get out and about, make the most of your local area and get involved in your local community.
Our challenge progress so far
Hundreds of us have already put our best feet forward and hit the pavement, running, jogging or walking parkruns across the country.
We’ve had colleagues represent Co-op in locations far and wide including:
- Glasgow, Scotland
- Omagh, Northern Ireland
- Par (Eden Project), Cornwall
Some of the numbers
Together we’ve tackled 95 locations across the UK! In total, over 181 colleagues have already completed a parkrun and 49 have completed their 3 runs and earned their free t-shirt.
We’d love to see more colleagues get involved in the challenge. There’s still over 600 parkruns to run in total, so there’s a long way to go. If you fancy tackling a parkrun nobody has completed yet, check the map and the list of parkruns below.

To join in the challenge simply:
- Sign up to parkrun
- Make sure you register to #healthyswaps with your employee number
- Head to your local parkrun!
To help motivate you, we’ve created a parkrun bingo with parkrun challenges on. We’d love to see how far you get in filling it out, you can find them on the social hub.
