You are our #localheroes
You are all continuing to make an amazing impact in your communities up and down the country. I’ve seen countless examples of colleagues going above and beyond across all of our businesses.
From our teams at Castlewood and Avonmouth depots donating food to people who need it, to Martin Brant from our Tobermory food store using his £100 thank you to buy Easter eggs for the children of local key workers. There’s David Knowles and his team who went above and beyond for a family to make the funeral of their loved one as personal as it could be and Rachel Tharia from Co-op Legal who made an amazing difference to a client going through probate.
There’s so many more examples I could tell you about, and I really want to, but there are just so many!
Please take a look at the attached PDF to see more and lookout on Yammer and social media for more of our #LocalHeroes and I’ll share a selection next week.
Thank you for everything you’re doing, you are all amazing and make me unbelievably proud.
Showing the nation what co-operation can really do
Today (Thursday) we’ve launched our brand-new ad campaign starring some of our very own fantastic colleagues.
It’s not our normal Easter Food campaign because, right now, nothing seems normal. Instead we’ve donated the £2.5m of our media air time to showcase FareShare and our partnership with them. In the ad, we’re asking our customers and members to donate what they can to support those in need right now, in the hope we’ll supercharge the £1.5m we’ve already pledged to donate to them.
Foodbanks are a lifeline for those who rely on the donations to feed their families and demand for foodbank services has already gone up. This is only going to grow as the number of people who unexpectedly find themselves without a regular or reduced income increases.
We believe that working together makes the biggest difference. That’s why we’ll be making it as easy as possible for customers and members to get involved by donating:
- By text – donating £10 to FareShare by texting MEALS to 70490
- In our Food stores through new bar codes at the till point (50p, £1, £2 or £5 goes to FareShare)
There’s no doubt that all our lives have changed beyond recognition; whether it’s working on the front line serving our local communities, juggling work and home-schooling from our homes, shopping for essentials for vulnerable friends and relatives or finding new ways to connect with our loved ones online.
These are difficult and uncertain times. But when we work together, when we all pull in the same direction, great things can happen. It’s what co-operation is all about, and it’s what we do.
