An update from Steve Murrells, CEO

Here’s my latest video update. Thanks for everything you’re doing!

This week’s #localheroes

Since this epidemic started, I’ve read through hundreds of incredible stories on how we continue to pull together, keep positive and work together to benefit our communities. When I’ve had a tough week, seeing all the amazing things you’re doing and how you’re helping others brings a big smile to my face.

This week, I received this lovely video message from some of our dairy farmers where they’re thanking us for our continued support on milk pricing.

I also heard about Josh’s close shave this week. Josh, who works in Ronkswood Co-op, promised to shave his head and magnificent beard if they could raise £1,000. Together with the help from his colleagues, customers and members from his local community, he raised £2,000. The money raised will be spent donating stock to the Worcester Royal Hospital wellbeing shop.

Finally, I just want to share a story from Samantha Ward who supported a young mother whose little girl was born sleeping. Situations like this are incredibly difficult, but the support and care she has shown to the family is something they’ll never forget. Thank you, Samantha.

You can see Josh’s transformation and Samantha’s arrangement here, along with many more examples of the incredible ways you help others. Please continue to share the amazing work you do every day on Yammer and social media using #LocalHeroes.

Don’t forget to tell us how you’re doing in the Coronavirus check-in survey

We’re really keen to hear how you’re feeling throughout the current situation we’re all facing, so we can support you in the right way. If you’ve not already, please complete our Coronavirus check in survey here.

The survey takes less than five minutes to complete and is anonymous – the results go straight to our third-party survey provider, so we won’t see your individual responses. You can find some supporting FAQs here.

FareShare and Coronavirus Members’ Fund update

Our customers and members have donated an incredible £875,000 to FareShare and our Coronavirus Members’ Fund. That’s enough to provide over 2.4 million meals through FareShare and support over 300 families experiencing funeral hardship.

We’ve seen a jump in donations since we aired our new ad with Marcus Rashford last week. If you haven’t seen the ad, you can watch it here. Please share it on social media to help spread the word and encourage more people to donate if they can.

*When Steve mentions relaxation in the rules for lockdown in his video, he’s referring to changes for England only. Sorry to any colleagues elsewhere in the UK where the advice is still to ‘stay at home’.
