By Tim Davies, Managing Director of Co-op Health
This week marks a year since we launched our Co-op Health business to help millions of customers and members better look after their health.
Introduced with an ambition to shake-up the traditional repeat prescription market, Co-op Health’s app is a bit like having a pharmacy in your pocket, allowing you to view and order repeat medicines in real time.
With a secure NHS connection to your GP’s system, you can choose to have your prescription dispensed by the pharmacy at our Lea Green depot and sent directly to your home or local Co-op Food store. Or, if you prefer, you can simply have it sent to a pharmacy of your choice.
The first digital pharmacy to offer NHS login, the app also gives patients a simple way to access other NHS services online.
We could never have imagined how crucial the Co-op Health app would be on its first birthday. Colleagues like Gemma Cameron have been using it to make sure they don’t run out of medicines so they can stay well, and we’ve seen over 10,000 people register for an NHS login so far this year.
And thousands of customers have been viewing and ordering their repeat medication on their smartphones, meaning they can stay home and avoid a trip to their GP surgery or local chemist during the current crisis.
We’re lessening the load for our GPs, too. With a secure connection to the surgery, it means reception staff don’t have to take as many calls or email doctors back and forth to generate repeat prescriptions, which lets them focus on other important tasks.
We’d like to give a big thank you from everyone here at Co-op Health to every single one of our colleagues who’ve supported us in the past year, especially those who are also our valued customers.
