This week’s #LocalHeroes

I can’t thank you all enough for everything you’ve done over the past five months. For over 12 weeks, I’ve been sharing just a snippet of some of the incredible things you’ve done for your customers, clients, members and communities, helping bring a bit of happiness, support and normality to everyone.

We’ve been tough, resilient and most importantly, thoughtful. No matter how hard it’s been at times, we’ve continued to work together as one Co-op.

As always, you’ve been sharing your #LocalHero stories and there are a few I’d like to call out. Frank Tsang in Property (as Mr Incredible above) and his friends have been running the streets of Sale (socially distanced) in superhero costumes, putting smiles on the faces of countless local residents. These superheroes have also received a special commendation from the High Sherriff Of Manchester, and have raised £6,000 for the McDonalds House Charity, Manchester.

Kate Parsons in Funeralcare reached an incredible milestone this week – she’s knitted 1002 ear protectors in total since the pandemic started, sending them to hundreds of key workers across the country, including colleagues at Co-op, hospitals, doctors, nursing homes and vets. That’s a lot of knitting and twice as many buttons!

This is going to be the last Local Hero celebration in this format, we’ll continue to share the amazing work you’re doing in new ways. For now, please keep celebrating yourselves and each other using #LocalHeroes on Yammer and social and continue sharing your stories.

Thank you.
