By Steve Murrells, CEO

This weekend we’re launching our ’12 Days of Togetherness’ to say thank you to every single one of our colleagues, and to lift spirits, spread kindness and share the festive cheer.

We want to say thank you to all our colleagues for all the amazing things you’ve been doing and continue to do. I’ve been so proud at how you’ve all kept the energy and collectively responded to the challenges faced, staying true always to our vision of co-operating for a fairer world.

And since we can’t be together like we normally would, we’re doing things a little differently. We’ll bring people together in a way that’s uniquely Co-op, helping us feel connected, even though we’re apart.

The calendar, created by a team of colleagues from all across Co-op, has daily treats and surprises behind 12 virtual doors.

The calendar goes live on Sunday 13 December – look out for the links through posters, Yammer, store tablets, Teams and all your usual communications channels – you’re not going to want to miss this! On Friday 18 December there’s an exclusive colleague member discount on Co-op brand for one day only (the biggest we’ve ever done) and lots of other vouchers, treats and ideas to enjoy and share with others.

We want you to know how much we appreciate everything you’ve done this year, to bring people together, and make it easy to say thank you to everyone.

Reaching out to others has never been more important and I’d love for you all to join in and enjoy moments with your colleagues. Make sure you share them with us on Yammer and social using #itswhatwedo – I can’t wait to see you all joining in.

Thank you for everything you continue to do for our Co-op.

  1. The 12 days of togetherness was absolutely brilliant, a lovely pre Christmas pick me up with an amazing discount for us all, wonderful!!

  2. I have never seen or heard colleague feedback in store to the positivity levels of the 12 days of Togetherness, putting our colleagues first and thanking them for being Coop over the whole of 2020, being part of an organisation that does the right thing and going above and beyond what any of us could have believed possible!
The happiness and sheer joy was a pleasure to witness!

  3. This has been a hugely generous and thoughtful initiative. I’ve been at Co-op six years so can clearly see how Co-op cares for its employees, in comparison with other employers out there in todays modern workplace… Care throughout the pandemic for all Co-op staff has been exceptional. Thank you all. Wishing you all the best for 2021.

  4. Thank you for gestures of good will a great help xx

  5. Thank you for a fantastic idea, I eagerly open up each ‘window’, it’s a little bit of fun and kindness in these difficult times. I’m quite a new member of staff ( Member Pioneer ) but feeling the community spirit and camaraderie every day.
    Happy Christmas all😀🎄🎅

  6. Missed the 50% off as I was on day-off when the brief was made for the “12 days”, and no-one passed the message on. Only found out about it on Friday evening.

  7. Thank you so much Coop. I did my Chrismas shop yesterday, the 50% discount was so generous. I am loving the 12 Days of Togetheness, really feeling the connection 🙂

  8. Hello colleagues, I’m a Co-op Members Pioneer and Member of course.
3rd day free gift of Christmas, tin of sweets or chocs, wasn’t loaded up to my Co-op app but the earlier £10 was?
I just spoke with membership, said they can’t help as have no involvement with this, what do you recommend pls?
    Thanks, Kevin

  9. I have to say I think this has been brilliantly executed and so much thought has been put into this.

Well done to the team behind this.

  10. I have an older colleague who doesn’t use email or a smart phone how can she take advantage of this?

    • The 12 days of Togetherness calendar is accessible to colleagues on all devices, whether on the network or not. If colleagues do not have internet access any freebies and discounts are automatically loaded onto colleague members’s wallets so they will not miss out.

  11. […] our biggest ever increase to your usual 20% discount on Co-op branded products as part of our ‘12 Days of Togetherness’, to thank you for an incredible year and share some festive cheer! Exclusions apply, check out […]

  12. I’m intrigued to what the other 10 are going to be x Thank you Co-op x

  13. Hi
    lovely idea!
How can i check if the £10 has been added to my membership card please- does it show this has been added or is it just included in the total ( i have no clue how much i had on my card to start with)

  14. What is the extra £50 in the wallet steve refers to in his video to colleagues today – is it a bonus in this months wages ?

    • The £50 that Steve refers to is a reference to the 12 Days of Togetherness campaign. Keep your eyes peeled on the advent calendar to see all of the treats as they are unveiled.

      • shame. cost me £20 in taxis to reach my nearest co-op(none in my town) to use the discount on the shop..saved £30, so it s a tenner I suppose. Would have preferred hard cash to use as i see fit as a xmas bonus. We can dream I suppose

    • I wondered that too and almost expected a £50 bonus on December payslip bit nothing yet!

  15. what happens if you don’t own a smart phone only have a laptop how do you get the offers

    • The 12 Days of Togetherness calendar is available for colleagues to access on any device including laptops. The link to the calendar will be in lots of easy to find places (including this story).

  16. Great gesture,well done coop.

  17. What a really nice and fun idea, thanks Coop

  18. What a fantastic idea….can’t wait until Sunday!

  19. Great Idea. What happens if you only have a works email and only access to this email when you are in work? Not everybody has access to the internet despite this modern world we live in.. Do you miss out on these offers on your days off?

    • The 12 Days of Togetherness calendar is available to colleagues without accessing your work email. The link to the calendar will be in lots of easy to find places (including this story) and on QR codes on posters that have gone out for people to print in stores/depots/ funeralhomes etc. Visit the site from any device join in – it’s accessible without a requirement to be connected to the network on a work device.

      • You haven’t answered the previous person’s question. What if you don’t have Any Internet access at home? Some of my colleagues at work don’t have Internet or a mobile phone of any sort

        • The 12 days of togetherness calendar is accessible to colleagues on all devices. If colleagues do not have internet access at home, they can access it while at work and on the network. Also, any freebies and discounts are automatically loaded onto colleague members’s digital wallets so they will not miss out.

  20. Will the offers be emailed too us? We dont have to go to shop everyday?

    • Specific emails will not be sent out however you can access everything digitally through the 12 Days of Togetherness calendar which is accessible on all devices, and you do not need to be connected to the network on a work device or in the store to take part. The link to access the calendar is in lots of places (including this story) and QR codes on posters have gone out too for people to print in stores/depots/ funeralhomes.

  21. Hi, will all of these events be store based? The co-op doesn’t have any stores in my town as they were all closed years ago.

    • Some of the activities and treats are gifts and discounts in a Co-op Food store but not all of them. There are lots of other ways to get involved in the sentiment of the 12 Days of Togetherness. The link to access the calendar is in lots of places (including this story) and on QR codes on posters that have been sent for people to print in stores/depots/funeral homes.

  22. This is a good idea. I would like to ask can the colleagues that are not currently working e.g. Maternity leave entitled to open this and how do they go about doing so? Also do you have to log in on a work device at the weekend to open the day in question to receive the daily gift? thankyou.

    • All colleagues including those currently on maternity leave are eligible to participate in the 12 Days of Togetherness. The calendar can be accessed on all devices, and you do not need to be connected to the network on a work device. Hope you enjoy taking part!

      • What about colleagues that are isolating during this period will they miss out or be able to get the days they have missed when they return

        • All colleagues including those currently isolating are eligible to participate in the 12 Days of Togetherness. The link to access the calendar is in lots of places (including this story). Visit the site from any device to join in. The detail and FAQs for each activity will be available in each door as the day reveals.

      • The calendar can’t be accessed on back office pcs or store tablet.

        • We know there’s an issue with access from back office PCs, and we’re working on that. The store tablets should work though, plus you can access the calendar on any personal device.
