By Lois McClure, Assistant Partnerships Manager
We’re excited to announce that our pop-up shops will be back in fields across the country as we prepare to join six different music festivals this summer – including Latitude, Kendal Calling, Reading and Leeds, Creamfields and Isle of Wight. We’ll be serving up the very best of Co-op to thousands of customers and members, and best of all, you’re invited to join us!
We need over 400 colleagues to help us run, manage, and serve customers in total. It doesn’t matter where you work either – everyone’s invited to apply! We’d love to see a mix of colleagues from our food stores, funeral homes, depots, legal services, and support centres all working together.
So, with that, I’d like to open the 2021 festival crew application. You can apply right now from our Festival Crew Recruitment colleague site.
Some background info
This year, the six music festivals we’re planning to join are (these dates include a training day the day before the festival opens):
- Latitude – 21 – 25 July
- Kendal Calling – 28 July – 1 August
- Leeds – 24 – 29 August
- Reading – 24 – 29 August
- Creamfields – 25 – 29 August
- Isle of Wight – 15 – 19 September
This year will be the first time we’re joining the crowds at Kendal Calling in the beautiful Lake District in Cumbria, whilst we’ll be returning to the other festivals for the third time.
These festivals are not only a great experience for you, but also a fantastic opportunity for us to grow our Co-op – bringing our amazing products and our unique difference to this music and community loving customer base!
What to expect
If you want to work with us this year, I can promise it will be good fun but hard work. You’ll be serving thousands of customers every day, replenishing stock and delivering a fantastic customer experience for festival goers. The stores are a 24/7 operation, and we’ll be looking for teams to work over three shifts every day.
Even though it will be tough, it will also be truly rewarding. Colleagues who have joined in previous years have talked to me about having made friends for life, and year after year they want to come back and do it all over again. Plus, one of the best perks is that you’ll get to join in the festival fun during your downtime. This year, some of the biggest and best artists and bands are playing including Stormzy, Post Malone, Liam Gallagher, Stereophonics, Tom Jones, Wolf Alice and hundreds more.
We’ll also have our own colleague sleeping area away from the general public, where you’ll be provided with a single person tent, a blow-up bed and have access to private toilets and showers!
If you’re enthusiastic and passionate about Co-op and music, we’d love to see you join us at our festival stores. Applications are open to every colleague who works at the Co-op.
I’d like to encourage anyone to apply this year no matter your background, job or age – don’t be afraid to try it out. We’re looking for a diverse group of people and if you have a passion for Co-op and are willing to work hard, please apply.
You have until 26 May to apply, and we’re aiming to let you know the outcome of your application around mid-June.
Keeping our colleagues and customers safe
One of our priorities during the festivals is how we keep our colleagues and customers safe whilst shopping with us.
We’re working hard with festival organisers on what this means and how it will work. We don’t have any definite answers at the moment, and a lot will be determined when we have government guidelines closer to the time.
But I want to reassure everyone who’s considering joining our festival crew this year, or to those who might be a customer, that we’ll be following all guidelines required.
We’ll be opening a Q&A thread, or you can visit our Festival Recruitment Yammer where you’ll be able to ask us any questions you have throughout the recruitment phase and beyond.
So please start to have a think about whether you might want to join us at any of the festivals this year and we’ll hopefully see some of you later this summer!
