21 June until 4 July is most definitely circled in my calendar! It’s the two weeks of the year when co-ops and organisations across the UK come together to raise awareness of what it truly means to be a co-op.
Did you know there are now 7,000 co-ops in the UK? And they’re not only retailers. They really do come in all shapes and sizes – from sports clubs to distillers, to skate parks and taxi drivers. What’s important is they’re all owned by their members, and that’s what makes them a co-operative.
What is Co-op Fortnight?
It’s a series of events and activities organised by Co‑operatives UK, sponsored by some of the UK’s largest co‑operatives and brought to life by co‑ops and their members across the length and breadth of the UK.
We’re encouraging our Member Pioneers and colleagues to take part and share stories of how they’re working with other co-operatives to make a difference and showcase the practical benefits of working together.
This year’s theme for Co‑op Fortnight is #JoinACoop. We’ll be celebrating the benefits of co-op membership and how joining a co-op provides something for you and makes a difference to local communities.
Make sure you don’t miss out! If you’re not already a colleague member of our Co-op, check out our new colleague membership page to find out how easy it is to earn rewards for you and your community and become a Colleague Member.
There are so many benefits of becoming a colleague member. When you buy selected Co-op products and services from us, 2p for every £1 you spend goes into your Co-op Membership account and we’ll give the same to local communities. You can spend the rewards you earn on most things you buy from us, not just Co-op products – and you can also choose to donate your rewards.
On top of all that, you can also save with exclusive discounts and personalised offers every week, plus tap into discounts across our family of business services.
How you can take part
Together we can grow membership and all our colleagues can get involved and support the campaign. Our Member Pioneers will help raise awareness of the campaign through local forums in their communities and promote our Co-op Membership online. I’ll be keeping an eye out to make sure I attend a local forum close to me and see how I can support them. Contact your local Member Pioneer for more details.
Our Member Pioneer Coordinators are also hosting Join-in live events throughout the campaign – you can find out more details here. I’ll certainly make sure I catch one of these sessions. They’re designed to shine a light on Co-op Fortnight and encourage attendees to become a member, or encourage existing members to get more involved.
Check out Social Hub where you’ll find assets to use on your social media accounts to promote Co-op Fortnight. I’ll be helping raise awareness on my social networks using these hashtags: #JoinACoop #CoopFortnight #ItsWhatWeDo. Don’t forget to share them with your family and friends too and get them on board by joining our Co-op!
