By Ahmed Sharif – General Distribution Manager, Biggleswade
My journey with logistics started 10 years ago. Having enjoyed several logistics roles during my time at Co-op, I recently applied for the General Distribution Manager position at Biggleswade as it’s a real opportunity to support and grow our Co-op network. It’s such an exciting project and the progressive working environment of the new depot can really shape how we work in the future.
Having been on-site for the past few months, it’s been great to see the depot starting to come together. To show you a glimpse into what life will be like at Biggleswade, I’ve put together a video showing you around the place, which you can watch below.
Colleague wellbeing has been a priority throughout the construction of Biggleswade and there will be an array of facilities that’re focused on your well-being, such as:
Outdoor areas for people to switch off in
Wellbeing rooms
Gender-neutral toilets
Unisex locker areas
Prayer and spiritual areas
Food and drink vending options
Best in-class restaurant that’s affordable
Electric charging points for electric/hybrid cars
We also want to celebrate difference in Biggleswade by making sure everyone has a voice. And to make this happen, we’ll listen to our colleagues and customers to understand what we can do to continually improve things.

We’ve currently in the process of appointing our senior leadership team and are recruiting more management and specialist positions. These will be recruited before the volume recruitment of warehouse operatives/support roles, which will start in Q4. The recruitment for our integration support roles has begun too, which will be crucial in the start-up of the site.
On top of this, we’ve started advertising our Warehouse and Transport Shift Managers roles. These will hopefully be in place for November.
If you’re interested in finding out more, please visit jobs.coop.co.uk/Biggleswade-depot where you can keep up to date with the progress of the depot and current recruitment.
There’s also an option to sign up for job alerts so you’ll be notified as and when roles you’re interested in are advertised, and also follow the Biggleswade depot Yammer community with regular updates being shared.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out on Yammer and someone from the resourcing team will be able to help and advise.
Looks incredible Ahmed! Looking forward to visiting you when the site is up and running – and also seeing our Community Notice Board in situ 😉
Love it. Thanks for sharing.
