Our teams have been working incredibly hard to develop an exciting new service that supports our Co-op vision, Co-operating for a fairer world, through the delivery of a portfolio of strong, digital legal products. I’m delighted to now introduce our digital lasting power of attorney (LPA).

An LPA is an important document to have. It allows you to appoint someone who you trust to manage your financial affairs and make decisions about healthcare for you, should you ever be unable to do this for yourself. Without an LPA in place, nobody automatically has the right to make these decisions for you, not even your immediate family. Available online 24/7, our new digital LPA is the first of its kind. Although it’s digital, it’s not simply a DIY process. It’s been cleverly designed to unravel some of the legal complexities by guiding you through several comprehensive questions and scenarios. As you progress through the process, it prompts you to consider your individual wishes and understand what options are available to you. All of the resulting documents will be reviewed by a legal specialist, authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

Please note, this service is only available to individuals who own property or assets in England or Wales. You can only make an LPA for yourself, it’s not possible to make an LPA on someone else’s behalf. The digital LPA service does not include registration – the LPA will need to be registered with the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) before it can be used, and a registration fee will be payable to them.
