By April Armstrong, Local Community Fund Manager

As a Co-op, we’ve always put local communities at the heart of what we do. Since 2016, Co-op members have raised more than £85m for over 30,000 grassroots projects through the Local Community Fund.

Applications for the next round of the fund are now open

We continue to support local groups that provide access to food, help improve mental wellbeing or provide opportunities for young people. For the first time, we’re also supporting causes that protect local biodiversity or tackle climate change.

Alongside these themes, we’re also looking for causes that represent the diversity of our members and communities and help to tackle the challenges faced by, for example, ethnic minority communities, LGBTQ+ people and people with disabilities.

“Like most groups, we’ve had to fill in a lot of funding applications over the years, but this form was the easiest we’d ever used”. Debra, founder of Little Sprouts health and wellbeing charity.

Please encourage local groups to apply at coop.co.uk/causes before 29 May.

Part of an online community

When applying for the fund, groups will join our online community centre, Co-operate. This provides support beyond funding. Groups can find volunteersread ‘how to’ guides and gather further donations. It’s free for everyone to use – even if their funding application is not successful.
