Next week (1 – 7 June) is National Volunteers Week, a time to celebrate all volunteers. We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has made a difference in our communities up and down the country.

Co-operation in our communities is what we do, what we’re great at and what makes us different. We’re proud to be a community retailer. Co-operate gives communities a platform to raise awareness of events and volunteering opportunities.

Without your support and commitment to helping others, our communities wouldn’t be the same.

Become a volunteer today!

We’re calling on our colleagues to get stuck into volunteering. There are over 18,000 volunteering opportunities on Co-operate. If we can all play our part, we can make an even bigger difference to our local communities.

You could be an animal lover or a green-fingered gardener. You might want to support nearby mental health and well-being causes. Whatever it is, you’ll be able to find something local to you that’s close to your heart.

If you’re new to volunteering, don’t be scared! It’s easy to find opportunities near you on Co-operate. The people running them are very friendly, and they love hearing from people who want to help.

If you’re a seasoned pro, why not support your team and give them a flavour of what they are missing out on. You could help organise donations or fundraise for one of our charity partnerships. (This includes Mind, SAMH and Inspire). You could even provide some coaching on best volunteering practices. Volunteering is also a great opportunity to support your own’ well-being. There’s no better feeling than seeing what positive impacts you can make for others. Volunteering can really help with your personal and career development too. Many colleagues who’ve volunteered in their community have learnt different skills which have enabled them to reach that next step in their career.

You don’t have to take my word for it – take a look at how volunteering has created magic by reading some inspiring stories.

So, with that in mind, I hope you’ll take a look through Co-operate, see what’s available and even consider reaching out to some communities. Co-operation is our Co-op difference. Every pair of hands really do help, and I’d love to see as many colleagues getting involved throughout National Volunteer Week as possible!

There are other ways to join in and help out

Help us spread the word about co-operate and all the brilliant volunteering opportunities. We have some fab posts on social hub that we’d love for you to share on your social media.

We’re also running a very special Own Your Tomorrow session on Wednesday 1 June at 11am. This will be a session on how volunteering can help benefit you as well as your community. It’s a chance to hear real colleague’s stories on how volunteering has enriched their lives. Don’t miss out – you can add the event to your calendar here. Please note, this event will take place on Microsoft Teams, but a recording will be available after.

I really hope we can all help celebrate National Volunteers Week in our own ways. There are some further resources available on Co-operate if you want to find out more.
