By April Armstrong, Local Community Fund Manager

We’ve already received some amazing applications for our Local Community Fund, but to give more groups a chance to apply, we’ve extended the application deadline in some communities until midnight on 12 June.

Do you know a group that helps support any of the following:

  •  brings people together to access food
  •  improves people’s mental wellbeing
  •  creates opportunities for young people to be heard and make a difference
  •  helps protect biodiversity or tackle climate change through carbon reduction

If so, please encourage them to apply at coop.co.uk/causes. Groups simply need to enter their postcode to see if we’re still accepting applications in their area.

As you’ll know, supporting our communities is at the heart of what we do and our Local Community Fund is proving to be even more important to local groups as they struggle to access funding.

Without funds like these, we could not have provided our service to so many vulnerable people. We would like to say a massive thank you for the generosity of Co-op members.

A funding partnership

Successful applicants will partner with Co-op for 12 months, working together to encourage Co-op members to support their project.

Support beyond funding

The Local Community Fund supports groups beyond just money. Causes will also join our online community centre, Co-operate. This helps causes reach more people and find volunteers, equipment and resources that can make all the difference to the success of their project.

We found the whole experience with the Local Community Fund humbling. We didn’t expect such support from the fund, Co-op members and the local community. It has really opened doors for us. We can’t thank the Co-op enough. Your fund is outstanding.

Making a difference

Since 2016 our members have raised over £85m for 30,000 local causes by simply buying selected Co-op branded product and services.

It’s heartening to know our fund is making a difference to millions of people across the UK, so we hope you can encourage groups to apply for the next round of funding.

Thank you so much for leading the way, please don’t stop doing what you’re doing. It’s one of the most engaging ways of fundraising I’ve ever come across.
